✓ Professional Development

During sprint 11, this professional development activity focuses on emotional intelligence and peer feedback as professional skills.

When: Professional Development Due on Gradescope by Wed, Mar 4, 2026 @ 11:59 PM ET. Late work will not be accepted.

1. Emotional Intelligence

Why: Emotional intelligence is an important professional skill that affects how individuals communicate, collaborate, and manage relationships in academic and workplace settings.

What: Watch The 4 domains of emotional intelligence video. Then complete a written reflection addressing the following:

  • Briefly describe the four domains of emotional intelligence discussed in the video.

  • Identify one domain you currently do well and one domain you would like to improve.

  • Describe one specific professional or academic situation where applying emotional intelligence would improve communication or collaboration.

2. LinkedIn

Why: Having a strong and active LinkedIn presence is important for attracting recruiters and starting your career. Learning best practices helps you optimize your profile and clearly communicate your experience.

What: Review the provided resources based on your current LinkedIn status and complete the required profile updates or creation steps. All students must add The Data Mine to their LinkedIn profile as experience if it is not already included, following the provided guidelines. Then complete the required submission on Gradescope.

  • If you already have a LinkedIn profile: Read the 10 LinkedIn Tips for Students & New Grads article or listen to the accompanying podcast (created using NotebookLM and based on the article) to understand best practices for improving your LinkedIn profile. Then please take at least one tip from the article and use it to improve your profile.

  • If you do not have a LinkedIn profile: Create a LinkedIn profile by following the steps in the provided video. Additionally you can review LinkedIn for students documentation.

✓ Sprint Report

Why: The Sprint Report is part of your grade and helps you reflect on your past work. It also gives you the chance to step back, recognize your impact, and track your growth as a teammate and professional. Each section is designed to help you think about your role, your progress, and how you are applying professional skills in a real project setting.

What: For Sprint #11, your report has three parts:

  • Self-Evaluation - evaluate your presence, contributions, and collaboration using the provided rubrics, and justify your choices.

  • Implementation Check from Professional Development

  • Reflection - connect your experiences from this sprint to project practices and the program.

When: Sprint Report #11 Due on Gradescope by Wed, Mar 11, 2026 @ 11:59 PM ET. Late work will not be accepted.
