Sprint Tasks
✓ Professional Development
During sprint 10, this professional development activity focuses on strengthening your communication skills through 3-Minute Thesis presentations and LinkedIn profile development.
When: Professional Development Due on Gradescope by Wed, Feb 18, 2026 @ 11:59 PM ET. Late work will not be accepted.
1. 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) Critique
Why: Effectively communicating your research in a clear and concise way is a critical professional skill. This activity helps you understand what is required for an effective 3-Minute Thesis presentation by reviewing examples from previous years, including content focus, clarity, and delivery.
What: Review the provided 3MT presentations from past years. Use the provided rubric to evaluate each presentation’s message clarity, structure, slide design, and delivery. Then complete a short reflection identifying elements you would replicate, improve, or avoid when preparing your own 3MT.
2. Biases
Why: Understanding how cognitive biases and emotional processes shape perception and decision-making improves self-awareness, communication, and professional judgment.
What: Watch the provided Your brain is biased by default video to learn how the brain’s default patterns influence thinking and behavior. Then complete a written reflection on Gradescope addressing:
-
One example of a common cognitive or emotional bias described in the video.
-
How that bias might appear in academic, workplace, or team interactions.
-
One specific strategy you could use to recognize or counteract that bias in yourself.
✓ Sprint Report
Why: The Sprint Report is part of your grade and helps you reflect on your past work. It also gives you the chance to step back, recognize your impact, and track your growth as a teammate and professional. Each section is designed to help you think about your role, your progress, and how you are applying professional skills in a real project setting.
What: For Sprint #10, your report has three parts:
-
Self-Evaluation - evaluate your presence, contributions, and collaboration using the provided rubrics, and justify your choices.
-
Implementation Check from Professional Development
-
Reflection - connect your experiences from this sprint to project practices and the program.
