Sprint Dates
All sprints will have the same due dates, but the sprint start and end dates are slightly shifted depending on when a team has their lab (2 hours) and lecture (50 minutes). This is so that sprints always start with a lec and follow the format lec-lab-lec-lab.
You can find a visual of the sprint schedule in the Agile Training Ceremonies page. More details will be covered in the agile training below.

*Please note that sprint 1 starts on January 8, the first day of spring 2024 semester, for both schedules. Once we are in a regular sprint schedule, you will see the lab then meeting schedule shift to starting on Thursdays.
Sprint Tasks
✓ Anvil Access
As soon as possible, please create an ACCESS account to access Anvil. Students in the 1 credit hour seminar TDM 102/202/302/402/502 have to do this too. You only need to create one account that you will use for seminar and Corporate Partners. *Do not submit this more than once.*
✓ Download MS Teams
The Data Mine uses MS Teams as one of our primary communication tools. You will need to download MS Teams to your computer. Your team SHOULD NOT use any other form of communication (e.g., Slack, Discord, etc.) unless approved by The Data Mine staff and your mentor.
When: By the first day of class
What: Download MS Teams Desktop App to your computer (and phone if you would like). Review the functions of MS Teams groups.
Where: Download on Microsoft’s website.
✓ Syllabus Quiz
While all teams will work on different projects and mentors will provide a project charter, the syllabus includes information that every Data Mine Corporate Partner student needs to know.
When: Due Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET. Late work will not be accepted.
What: Both new and returning students ahould review the spring 2025 syllabus page and spring 2025 course schedule. Take the quiz up to 3 times and your highest score will be taken. You may have the syllabus open while you take the quiz.

✓ The Examples Book Quiz
The Examples Book does not only contain information regarding due dates and assignments. It is also a resource for students to learn how to use tools and technologies. It is a living document that is updated by students and staff at The Data Mine.

The Data Mine Corporate Partners program is a professional development program. We want to help you develop the skills you need to be successful in your career. We will have a variety of professional development activities throughout the semester.
Each sprint you will complete one Gradescope quiz on the professional development tasks for that Sprint.
When: Due Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET. Late work will not be accepted.
What: Both new and returning students should read this information and watch the video about how to effectively participate in a virtual meeting.
Where: Complete the reflection for this professional development training on Gradescope in the assignment "Sprint 1: Professional Development".
Why: Students in The Data Mine Corporate Partners program meet with their Corporate Partner Mentors online via Microsoft Teams every week. Conducting oneself professionally in a virtual setting is a crucial skill to develop. Returning students should reflect on their experiences from the fall semester, noting what went well and identifying areas for improvement. New students should familiarize themselves with the do's and don'ts of these meetings to ensure they make a positive impression.

Where: Complete the knowledge check for this professional development training on Gradescope in the assignment "Sprint 1: Professional Development".
Why: Utilizing a Kanban board is essential for a team's success in The Data Mine. Returning students, reflect on how effectively you used the Kanban board during the fall semester. New students, learn to use the Kanban board effectively, as it will be crucial for tracking your projects in The Data Mine.

What: Please review the Team Contract your team composed during Fall Semester. IF you don't know where it is, ask your TA. (5 minutes).

Why: Team Contracts are the foundation of a successful team. They help members understand expectations and establish norms. New students should familiarize themselves with this document to ensure alignment with the team. Additionally, returning students should reflect on its effectiveness and suggest improvements to enhance usability.

What: Watch the following video Implicit Bias: Lesson #3 - Real World Consequences (4 minutes)
Where: Complete the reflection for this professional development training on Gradescope in the assignment "Sprint 1: Professional Development".
Why: Research over the past fifteen years has shown that implicit biases can significantly impact our decisions and behaviors, even if the effects are considered small statistically. A meta-analysis found that implicit biases are better predictors of discriminatory behavior than explicit biases which emphasizes the importance of addressing implicit biases to build equity for all.

When: Due Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at 11:59 PM ET. Late work will not be accepted.
What: Answer the questions in the Sprint #1 Report accessed on Gradescope. You can draft your answers in a separate document then you will write your answers directly in the Gradescope assignment.
Where: Submit the report on Gradescope titled "Sprint 1: Report".
